Units per hour

Our core efficiency metric

Units per hour (UPH) is Oda’s key metric for fulfillment efficiency. It represents the number of items that can be picked, packed, and dispatched per hour of human labor in a fulfillment center.

Oda Oslo’s UPH performance over time

The data shows consistent improvement in UPH performance at Oda’s Oslo facility, demonstrating our commitment to continuous optimization.

* UPH declines naturally in July due to lower volumes during Norwegian Summer holiday.

How We Calculate UPH

While UPH is a standard metric within the logistics and fulfillment industry, there are variations in how it's calculated. This is how we measure it:

UPH = Throughput / worked hours

Throughput: Throughput: The sum of picked quantity registered as picking operations in picking departments (Cold, Dry, Frozen) over a given time period.

Worked hours: Hours directly connected to fulfillment operations on shifts within the five operations departments: Cold, Dry, Frozen, Incoming, and Terminal. This includes restock and fruit & veg.

What’s not included: Worked hours not connected to UPH, including administrative time, breaks, training sessions, and maintenance activities.

Why our UPH calculation matters

  • Full process coverage: Our UPH metric includes incoming, picking, restock, packing, and dispatch, providing a holistic view of fulfillment efficiency.

  • Consistency: By using a consistent calculation method across all facilities, we can accurately compare performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Transparency: Our methodology provides a clear picture of the true operational efficiency, allowing partners to understand exactly what our numbers represent.

  • Continuous improvement focus: By tracking this comprehensive metric, we’re able to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for optimization across the entire fulfillment process.

Let’s talk about your numbers

With some basic data about your existing volumes and orders, we can run a model simulation to show you the real performance gains you can achieve with Oda Systems. We’d love to show you what we can do together.
